Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery
Surgical operations in dogs and cats
This specialty deals with all diseases that can be surgically treated and involving the abdomen, thorax, skin and neck.
Our purpose: to promptly perform surgical interventions, if possible with the use of mini-invasive and laser techniques, and allow their rapid recovery.
Soft tissue surgery is necessary in different situations, ranging from curative treatments of common and uncommon diseases to palliative and preventive surgeries. Among the others, disorders such as gastric dilatation volvulus, diseases of the reproductive system and brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (common in brachycephalic species such as Pug, English and French Bulldog, Cavalier King Charles, etc.) are frequently treated at our institution. However, more complex diseases, such as closure of porto-systemic shunts, pericardiectomy, and excision of tumors with vascular infiltration involving any thoracic and abdominal organ are also performed.
Mini-invasive surgical techniques (diagnostic and operative thoracoscopy and laparoscopy) permit interventions through three small incisions, by which a camera and two operative devices are used. The procedure reduces discomfort and considerably shortens the hospitalization period.
We also perform LASER SURGERY of the upper respiratory tract to resolve serious laryngeal diseases, such as laryngeal paralysis and the brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, or of the urinary system, such as ectopic ureters or urogenital anatomic abnormalities. Also in these cases the post-operative hospitalization period is reduced, as compared to traditional surgical procedures.
